What you need to know
The UCA grade point average (GPA) is calculated on a 4.0 scale. Your cumulative and semester GPAs are displayed on the grade report and your transcripts.
Semester GPA (SGPA): A numerical value derived from final grades on all courses attempted within a semester, excluding courses with no grade points attached.
Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA): A numerical value calculated at the end of each semester derived from final grades on all courses attempted within a credential at a UCA campus in Central Asia. It is calculated based on all courses completed in the programme which count towards programme compliance requirements and are not excluded from GPA calculation.
Some key points to remember:
- Enrolled credits are the sum of the credits which student was registered for at the beginning of the semester.
- Earned credits are the sum of the credits, earned by students.
- The following are not included in the calculation:
- Courses with a grade of P, F, W, IP, AU, and I.
- Transferred courses.
- A repeated course counts in your GPA each time you take it.
How to calculate your GPA
Example 1: Semester GPA (SGPA) Calculation:

Total Enrolled Credits = 30
Total Earned Credits = 24
Total Credit-Hour Value = 24+18+22.02+19.98 = 84
Semester GPA (SGPA) = Total Credit-Hour Value/Total Enrolled Credits = 84/30 = 2.8
Example 2: Cumulative GPA (CGPA) Calculation:
Assume the student has completed 2 semesters.
- Semester 1:
- Total Enrolled Credits = 30
- SGPA: 2.8
- Total Credit-Hour Value = 24+18+22.02+19.98 = 84
- Semester 2:
- Total Enrolled Credits = 24
- SGPA: 3.33
- Total Credit-Hour Value = 12+24+19.98+24 = 79.98
CGPA=Cumulative Total Credit-Hour Value/Cumulative Total Enrolled Credits = (84+79.98)/(30+24) ≈ 3.04
