Transfer credit

What you need to know

Transfer of Credits from Outside UCA

You may request transfer credit for the courses taken before you arrived at UCA or while you were already enrolled as a UCA student. Each department has its own transfer credit requirements and you can get advice on procedures and appropriateness.

Transferred courses/credits will appear on your academic record with the remark “Transferred”. Although the grade is not used in calculating your semester or cumulative GPA, the credit counts toward your total number of credits.

Some key points to remember:

  • Transfer from other universities to Year 2 of the Undergraduate Programme and onward is not permitted.
  • Individual course transfer credits shall be reviewed on a case-by-case basis targeted at 80% alignment of the learning outcomes and the institution being accredited.
  • Only credits with a grade “B” or above are transferable.
  • Total transfer credit allowed is 25% of UCA’s total programme credits.

Exchange Programme Transfer Credit

UCA has several Exchange Programmes with other institutions and students can apply via COOP Department. If accepted into a programme, students then fill out the “Student Exchange Programme” form to obtain the approval of the Dean and submit it to Registrar’s Office.

Some key points to remember:

  • Transfer of credits for classes taken outside of UCA will be processed by the Department of the respective programme.
  • The Learning Agreement should be approved by the host institute and UCA.
  • The maximum number of credits transferrable per semester is 36.
  • Only the credits of the approved courses that students successfully completed will be transferred except those courses graded on a Pass/Fail system.
  • For courses that no relevant course can be identified at UCA, the respective Department can determine transferring it as an elective.
  • Students are responsible for providing the transcript, obtained during their exchange study, to their respective Department.

Internal Transfer Credits

Acknowledgement of Internal Transfer Credits. In order for the student to change a major the following provisions should be taken into consideration: 1) if the difference in learning outcomes of a discipline exceeds 50 per cent, such discipline should be re-taken, 2) the pre-requisite courses essential for continuing of the chosen academic programme must be prioritized within the individual academic plan.

Courses taken in the Preparatory Programme are assigned credit points. These credit points do not transfer to the Undergraduate Programme and therefore, are not included into the Undergraduate credential a student will earn at UCA.

Some key points to remember:

  • If a student has been allowed to enroll in a new major, that student may be required to enroll for an extra year at UCA, in order to take the required pre-requisites for the new major.
  • Transfer of students (the actual enrolment in a new major programme) is to be carried out during summer or winter holidays.
